Merry Christmas to all

Okay, so my last post was #42. Too bad it was just me whining :P

Anyhoo, Merry Christmas everyone! And Happy New Year!

I just watched 'It's a Wonderful Life' with my husband, who hadn't actually seen it before. I'm sure he found it boring and silly, but he sat through it with only a couple comments. Granted, he was tired, but it was very nice :) Will try to make it a tradition, but we'll see how that goes.

People are so stupid...

...and annoying and frustrating and bloody well get on my nerves some days. So you're having a bad day? Guess what, so am I! Get over it.

...just needed to rant...

It's finally happened

I think...I think I'm going to take a break from WoW...let my current subscription run out and take a month or so off. I just got a few new games recently, and find myself playing them more than WoW at the moment. It's not that I don't still love WoW...it's just that all I find myself doing is making alts :P I can't get into the raiding, or the rep grinding, etc. When Cataclysm comes out, I'll be back in guaranteed. Until then, we'll see how it goes.

Edit: Yepp, just cancelled it. Have until Jan. 15

Christmas Songs

A friend told me about a Christmas special I missed. Trans Siberian Orchestra: The Ghosts of Christmas Eve. It's from 2001, but the DVD just came out this year (which I plan to get). I did download it and am currently watching it. I love how long haired rock out on electric guitars to Christmas songs...and it _works_. It's set to a story about a little girl that hides in a theatre on Christmas Eve because she ran away from home. I'm really enjoying it, and just think the concept of what TSO does with music is great, and have loved their stuff for a while.

Anyhoo, go find and watch.

Day off ramblings

Days off, yay!! Feeling a little weird, moody I suppose. Just finished watching Alice. Very fun :D Got to see an actor I haven't seen since Primeval las aired. Andrew Lee Potts. He played Hatter (yes, the Mad Hatter), in this version of Alice in Wonderland, and from the moment I saw him I was rooting for him. Excellent performance, and stood up to Tim Curry _very_ well. Anyway, guess I got caught up in the romantic pull of the story (hormones :P) so now I feel funky. As I do when I obsess over something, I went and found more of his work. Got a 6 episode series downloading at the moment, dealing with demons and whatnot so that's awesome, and now I'm actually really glad that Primeval is picked up for another 13 eps, as I get to see Connor again (Potts' char). I'm a pathetic sap...

Okay, think I'm off to play WoW and listen to some Christmas music :D

The Caddie

"So what?" the first boy shrugs as he works on the padlock keeping the garage closed.

"So...we can't just break into this guy's place, who knows what he'll do to us!" the second boy whispers loudly, looking over his shoulders constantly.

"He won't do anything," the first rolls his eyes, then lets out a "Woohoo!" as the lock finally pops open. With a quick glance around, he lifts the garage door just enough for the two of them to slide under and in.

"Not complaining now are ya?" the first asks with a smirk, as the two boys look around in awe at the treasure they just uncovered.

A 1959 Cadillac Eldorado, black and chrome, sat before them. They looked at each other with mischievous delight, then the first called "Driver!" and ran to the driver side door.

With a bit of a grumble, the second made his way to the passenger's side and both climbed into the immaculate vehicle. They were grinning again as they admired the inside, then they had themselves a good half hour of pretending to drive the vehicle.

There's a cough behind them, "It works better if you have these," a man's deep voice says, a touch of amusement in his voice, and he held up a set of keys with a black rabbit's foot and jingled them.

The boys bolted out of the car and ran for the garage door, but the man was already there and gripped the two by the back of their jackets, "You came all this way? Don't you want to take a ride?" the man asked.

The two boys looked at each other nervously, "Uh, no, it's okay mister," the second stammers while at the same time the first nods, "Yes!"

The man laughs and lets the boys go, "Tell ya what. You buy me a new padlock for my door, and do a few chores for me, and I'll take you on that ride. Deal?" he offers them.

The boys send silent messages to each other, then the first puts out his hand to the man, "It's a deal," he says, and shakes as firmly as his nervousness would let him.

"Now get going before I decide to call your parents," the man says, voice authoritative now.

The two boys nod and scramble out the way they came, the man watching in amusement. He turns back to the car, runs a loving hand over it, and buffs out an imaginary scuff, "Nice to be still appreciated huh?" he asks it, then chuckles and heads back inside the house, tossing the keys up and down as he went.

House MD video game? Huh?

Remember to post when you actually think of it

So, had a few things to post earlier today and yesterday...now can't think of them *hangs head*

Oh! Here's one. For those of you that are considering coming to my 'big' birthday party next year (for those that don't know, I'm inviting anyone that can reasonably make it, to come to my 30th birthday party for July 11, 2010) I came up with an idea to go bowling, and to have a sci-fi/fantasy theme. I highly encourage dressing up ;)

Well, I think that's it...:P

New Moon (requisite spoiler alert)

So, went with a friend to see New Moon last night. We had a great time, and the movie wasn't that bad either. We laughed through most of it. I've read the books, so it's kind of hard to be on the edge of my seat when I know what's going to happen. Jacob and the wolf boys, they really worked out to look like that. The hair was definitely better than the first movie LOL too.

Okay, so here are the 'cameos': Dakota Fanning played Jane (very cool, if 'bad guy', vampire), 'Todd the Wraith' played one of the lead vampires, Orlin/Leech was a lackey vampire, and...wait for it..._Lucien_ (as in the leader of the werewolves in Underworld) played the most talkative and top head vampire. I thought that last one was just hilarious.

So, I will be adding this to my blu-ray collection of course, but I think the next movie is going to be better. This one was very much 'internal', but the next one has more outside action to it...and I believe a nice play by Edward to put Jake in his place ;)

The other blog

So, to leave a comment on Wil's blog, I had to sign into TypePad. Was going to switch my blog from here to there...but I still like here better over all. Sure, I could prolly do more over there, if I was willing to pay, but I'm not. This will do nicely, though I do have an idea for something.

Okay, so in playing around with the title pic, I've made myself a new 'cooler' avatar icon :D

Dragon Age and other stuff

So, got an early Christmas gift a couple days ago; Dragon Age for PC. It's great! It's giving me Neverwinter Nights (the first one) flash backs. The graphics are good, but nothing to rave about, and I mean, the story is A-typical, but it's what I like. I'm finding it really fun :D I got the Deluxe edition, so got a few bonus items and free downloadable content.

Been watching the new 'The Prisoner'. It's not so much confusing, as just kind of...all over the place. The acting is good (Sir Ian McKellan and the guy that played Christ in The Passion), but I'm wondering if the original, or the previous remake was better. If there's a book form, I'd be even more interested in that.

Speaking of books, just started reading Neuromancer. Interesting, and I wonder when it was written, 'cause it's very much 'Johnny Mnemonic' with hints of 'The Matrix' (funny how both are Keanu). Either way, will prolly talk about it more later.

That's it for now I guess. Be seein' ya (hehehe)

Still hooked on Teh 'Hawsome' Wheaton

So, been reading Wil Wheaton's blog (from Sept. 2005 on) and just on April 2006 now. I've been reading pretty steadily these last few nights, and it feels good.

I'm _reading_ again. I actually went and finished Tarzan of the Apes last night (which I've been reading off and on for a while now) because I didn't want to stop reading. For those who haven't read the book, DO SO! The only thing Disney got right with theirs, was a fantastic visual interpretation of Mr. Burroughs' telling of how Tarzan travelled through the jungle canopy. Clayton isn't such an ass, he's just got moments of jealousy. Jane isn't quite so bold, though she is American in the book so bold'er' works. Okay, the professor, bang on *laughs*. The ending of the story, however, is nothing like any of the live action or animated versions I've seen. It's not bittersweet, it's just down right sad. I cried.

Back to Wil's blog. It has inspired to me to try to write more in my own blog. I have grand ideas of moving to a bigger, more personalizable site, but I highly doubt that will happen. For now, I am satisfied to be able to write down my thoughts, and maybe add a picture or two. The side gadgets let me post links, so that's nice too. Nothing fancy, but nice. Maybe in the future, I might start writing a few stories out. We'll see ;)

Wil Wheaton, Big Bang Theory, Steam and Me

So, been immersing myself in podcasts and audiobooks by Wil Wheaton lately. First it was 'Memories of the Futurecast', then 'Just a Geek'. Memories was extremely funny and highly entertaining, and I feel like I could walk up to Wil and strike up a normal conversation with the man. Just a Geek only made that feeling more real. He shared a whole lot of his life story and troubling times with his audience in that one. I feel like I should go find his blog and read it, start to finish. Now, I never hated Wesley Crusher on TNG, but that might have been because I was too young to see the bad dialogue. All I saw was a cute boy on a sci-fi show roughly my age. I had a crush :P It continued with Lucas Walencek(sp?) in seaQuest, I'm ashamed to admit. Anyhow, Wil got me reinterested in blogging, and really made me feel for him. If I ever get the chance to go to a Con where he is performing, that will be on my 'Must See' list, with a possible photo op and autograph signing, but for his blog and books. Go Wil!

Big Bang Theory, a show a number of my friends said I had to see. Well, I got a hold of a copy of the first season DVDs and started watching them. It's a half hour sitcom...I don't like those...so I can't say I'm going to rave about it. However, for what it is, I would have no problem watching it if someone flipped to it. The two main chars start the series off showing up at a high IQ sperm bank, then proceed to discuss the 'protocol' for not donating after all. They are geniuses, and with that comes eccentricities. Leonard, the more normal of the two, is the one I think the audience is supposed to relate too...I think Sheldon is great. He is the more eccentric of the two, the least connected to the mundane world, and I find myself watching mostly to see what trouble he gets them into. The cliche 'pretty blond across the hall' love interest is given to Leonard of course, and she is played fairly stupid to their brilliant. I mean, I know more about what they talk about than she does. But, she brings 'humanity' to the group. Their two other friends, 'The Raj' and 'Sexual Harassment already happened' guy, I could do mostly without. Especially Sexual Harassment guy, who I think is trying to look like a Beatle? Overall, it did get a few good laughs at me, and I managed to watch the first five eps or so all in a row without stopping in disgust. So, for a sitcom, it's not bad.

Steam. Steampowered.com to be exact. A game site that allows you to download games _legally_ for less than box price (with weekly specials even) and behaves similar to the online PS3 setup. You have a friends list and chat windows, and can have other friends join you in the online sections of the game you download. Another neat feature, is if you install the client on another computer, you can connect to your account and download any game you own to that computer. This will come in handy as I bought Overlord (fun addicting game) for $5.99USD and now Colin wants to play as well. The games look good, and are the PC versions of their console counterparts. I started doing this after much encouragement from my friend Shawn, since he's been on it since it began...almost. Also, he showed me Dragon Age, and I'm hooked and will prolly get it through Steam. Apparently, you can insert non-Steam games into your Steam client as well, so I could WoW to show up in it's launching window...if I understood correctly. It's a neat 'gadget', and I'm enjoying it so far. If nothing else, it was worth it to get Overlord at that price.

Me. Personal section now I guess. Not so nice really, as I've recently had a major falling out with a long time friend of mine. It appears it's really over this time, as I've been banned from things that I'd never been banned from before during our worst fights. I'm sad, but to be honest, I think it was time. There was more annoyance and grumbling between us than friendship. Maybe, in a while, we'll talk again but I don't think we'll be the friends we were. If that person reads this, I don't know why they would, all I have to say is 'I'm sorry it didn't work out.'

Windows 7

So, it's done, I now have Win7 on my desktop. Half hour to install OS, still playing around with personalizing it though. Will do laptop in a bit, but I think I need more food (lol).

For those that I haven't gushed over it to, go check out Riese: The Series!! I will put link in link section to the side as well as here

In other news, annoying person at work is no longer working there w00h00!!! All of us are rather relieved. Now if only one other could be gotten rid of *evil grin*

Hmmm....think that's it for now. Cya :D

SGU - Beware of possible spoilers

Yay!! Stargate is back...kind of. The new series is definitely different in feel from the first two. It's kind of what I was hoping Atlantis would be like, the threat of death is much more real and they _are not_ finding a way home any time soon (well, okay, that's mostly conjecture but I believe the story will uphold it). Survival is the key word, and it's not a hand picked team where everyone has the right skills needed. And one of the main characters, he actually gives me a creep vibe...not sure his intentions, but I like that. I was told it had a BSG feel to it, and boy does it ever...even the music. It gets right into things, and very little (so far) standing around (or sitting in a briefing room) talking about what's going on. Both SG-1 and Atlantis kind of went heavy on that I now realize. They don't have time to stand around and talk, they literally have a count-down going as soon as they 'arrive'. One person is already dead, giving the others just a day of extra time. I am impressed and have high hopes for the series. Let's hope it keeps the slightly BSG feel, but stays true to it's SG roots.

Side note: Jack's put on a lot of weight :P Nice to see Sam again :D Why is Daniel only in a video?:( *wants copies ;)*

Oh! Speaking of Sam, Amanda Tapping's actual series, Sanctuary, starts this Friday :D Am almost as excited about that one as I was about SGU. I can't claim super fandom on Sanctuary, but I did start watching while it was still a web series.

You know, one of these visits out to Van, I'm going to get the courage to ask someone to get me an introduction...yeah, right :P

Anyhoo, completely changing gears here, an employee at work that's basically taken the summer off 'due to medical reasons' is back...and working as little as possible. They're not reliable, can't be contacted, lazy and backstabbing. Yet, we have to take them back...why?? They are not living up to the performance expected of them, especially at their level. It's the same with why can't we get rid of another employee that causes more problems than necessary, and has literally scared off other employees with their bad attitude? Grrrrrrr......

Yay for Holidays!

So, officially on holidays now. I don't go back until the 29th. Mostly want to just hang around home, veg and really relax. Last time off was fun, but didn't really feel like time off because I was off and running to Van. I might (prolly will) make a trip to Kelowna.

Speaking of a trip, we got the car majorly fixed recently. No worries about it blowing up anymore :P And C's still using his mum's while she's out of town, so I really could run off for a few days, and wouldn't have to worry about him. We'll see how I feel in a few days though.

Work is interesting right now...some people expect the world to revolve around them...we'll see how that turns out later.

That's about it for this update :)

Gone and done it again :P

Okay, I did it again...stopped posting. MY LIFE IS JUST TOO BORING!!

Well, not totally true, but mostly. Really, nothing much has happened.

I did get to go visit Michelle on her birthday, and we got ice-cream cake (not so much we had to eat tonnes to get it in the ice box this time tho).

Spent way too much on clothes, and most of them were for work. I did, however, get a real cool shirt that says 'When you give your <3 to a Vampire, it's forever' The heart is a big red heart with sparklies. I saw it hanging up and just grabbed it. If you know me, you know I _had_ to have it.

Oh, and we went to all you can eat dim-sum and I had chicken feet :D They weren't bad, but too much work for too little return in my opinion. Rest was yummy tho :)

My friend's kid fractured his hand yesterday actually, that was amusing. Gonna laugh at him when I see him next. The doctor could have just put a splint on, but didn't trust him to keep it on so he's got a bright green cast LOL I only laugh because he did it to himself for a stupid reason.

Um...oh yeah, end of the month the Esso across the street is shutting down. Rumour has it, being bulldozed and redone. This means work is gonna get extra busy for a while :P

Okay, think we're caught up :) Will try to post sooner next time ;)

Oops....Here's pics of Ren Fair

I think I was supposed to post this last week...sorry. Anyway, Ren Fair was great fun, especially the pirate/scottish king skit :D The joust was cool too. Awesome costumes, and a fun pub sing. And oh my, the hickory smoked turkey legs? Teh awesome!!

Okay, so here's some pics :D

Pockets, pockets and more pockets!

Added pockets to my bag purse :D And extended the front flap some more. The colour of the yarn didn't quite match, but it's stiffer so works better for the front flap.

It is done! (the base at least)

Wow, I did it!! First 'big' crochet project is done. Here are the pics I promised:

Front view

Side view

There will be pockets added, and more pics posted when that happens. Right now, I need sleep lol

Going to Van soon, and my new hobby

Couple more weeks and I'm going to Van! Yay!!! I can't wait :D

I get new glasses on Friday, or at least get them ordered. Either burgundy or black full frames this time. And a new prescription too.

My new hobby...crocheting. Yes, you heard right, I've entered the first stages of 'old woman'. It's fun though, fairly inexpensive, and what I make I can make exactly how I want it. So far, it's just been dishcloths, but I'm now working on a bag. I'm hoping to have it done for when I go to Van. Whenever I do get it done, I'll post a pic :)

Down note, there have been a lot of deaths in celeb-ville lately, but I just found out about one close to home. Larry, the card shop owner, died last night :( He's one of those guys that everyone who reads comics, plays DnD/Magic/etc. knows. His store was right across from my husband's, and he quite often would go over and chat with Larry during his break. This is a sad thing, and a lot of people are going to miss him.

Win7 troubles

Well, everything was going good on the Win7 front...until it decided I _wasn't_ the administrator and now won't let me access the main drive...or even do regular updates, fixes, etc. Tomorrow is day off, and time to re-install. I like it enough that I'm going to consider this a minor set back.

On another topic, it was Dani's b-day yesterday, which means mine is only a month away. I look at her life and I'm jealous. She seems to have everything together, 'grownup'-like. I look at my life and think how immature it seems. *sigh* Never gonna really grow up I guess :P

Win7 Update

Well, I'd have to say that was the fastest install-to-use time I've had. I like the features, though a few take a little getting used to. No major issues yet, but then I don't use my laptop for much more than occasional downloading, messenger and web surfing. The space requirement for Win7 (16GB) is a bit big...but like I said, I don't have much else on the laptop. It did force me to clean out stuff too, which is good.

So, I have to say, I _will_ be officially upgrading to Win7 on my desktop come the purchasable release. I can't afford two licenses though, so the laptop will be downgrading back to XP I think...unless I find a work-around or they now allow multiple home computers on the same license.

Windows 7

So, I've decided to give Windows 7 RC a shot on my laptop. Big download, and all the important stuff backed up. Will install tomorrow, after work, and let you know.

Vampire Craze

Okay, thanks to Twilight, vampires are back in (for the moment) but they're the 'teeny bopper' kind really. Oi... And I just found out one of the series I really liked (when I was a teenager) is being made into a TV series by the CW (formerly WB, where Buffy and Angel made their home for a while). Okay...so they want in on the vampire craze. Already, I'm not liking what I'm hearing. As my friend said though, good for a laugh.

I feel old....

The '7-11 Mythbusters Special' Challenge

Here's the challenge:

Make a list of 10 (or more) myths to send to the mythbusters, and all about 7-11. I want input from customers _and_ employees (I know both). Give me anything you can think of. Something relatively simple, can be added to or spark something in someone else. A co-worker and I came up with a couple, so here's the start of the list.

1. Will a diet pop syrup really blow up a slurpee machine?
2. Can you break a window/play baseball with, an overcooked taquito?
3. Methods of 'curing' brain freeze: rub the roof of your mouth with your thumb or rub your temples.

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

Grrrrrr......

What do I have to do, what _can_ I do, to get the Ice Queen fired!? She has no people skills, is rude to a fault, has had many complaints about her, but still she works there! Why? How?? A new guy just quit, in part because of her, and he would have worked out great. Now she said she's going to badmouth him to his new employer, just because he quit. How do people like her keep their jobs in a CUSTOMER SERVICE area?

If I ever become manager, that will be the first thing I do...fire her ass. She's made employees cry for pete's sake! She doesn't do what's asked of her, but complains to high heaven if what she asks us to do isn't done.

Days Off

So, Dani has invited me to spend a weekend with them in July during a Ren Festival. I've decided to go, and have booked the time off :D It should be really fun and interesting.

Nice surprises

So, while getting my daily list of torrents, I discover that two shows I had thought dead, aren't. At least, we're getting another season. Not quite sure on the status of Primeval beyond season 3, but Robin Hood is back as far as I know. I _need_ my Brit TV. It's so refreshing compared to North American stuff. Not saying NA stuff isn't good, but the Brits just have a different way of doing things.

So yeah, YAY!!!

New Toy

Yay!! I have my new toy. It's cool...can fit _all_ my music on it if I wanted LOL. Got some games on it, but yet to put on movies or shows. Will see about that later maybe. Got a case and some power adapter accessories with it too. Happy happy me :D

Region Settings

So, finally got a new vid card, installed and worked fine. WoW runs amazingly now. Blu-rays play too!! Except for Twilight :P For some reason, my player says the region setting is different than the disc. Grrrr...still works on PS3 though, so I'll live :D

Yay, two more sleeps until I get my new toy!!

Twilight and blu-ray drives

So, Twilight is released on vid this weekend. I've pre-ordered from Amazon, so should be getting sometime next week. There's a bunch of gimics that you could enter to win to go with it, but so far I've resisted. The fact I'm getting the movie on blu-ray is enough :P

Speaking of blu-ray, bought a blu-ray drive for my comp...vid card can't handle it. Now I have to find the money to buy a new card...though I've kinda been needing one for a bit. Maybe can convince C to buy me for my b-day :D

Other than that, not much going on.

ladeedadeeda

In Kelowna now :) Of course, it had to first snow, then freeze right before I drove out :P Otherwise, good trip. No major near misses.

Just waiting to head out for lunch, then some shopping, and then movie :D

Going to Kelowna!!!

So, on Tuesday I'm heading to Kelowna for an overnighter, then bringing a friend back :) I've been going crazy lately, I need to travel a bit, so this is great. I'd almost say that Kelowna was too short a trip :P Vancouver is too long though...

It'll be nice to have another friend in town :D

Speaking of friends in town, got another one that's moving back after having lived in Calgary for a number of years. It's awesome for me, since he's my bestest and longest standing friend. I've known him since middle school lol. The cost of living there is just getting too high for him. He's got his mum and sister handing out his resumes here so he can find a job. Now, he used to work at 7-11 before I started there, and I would laugh if he ended up back there. I doubt it though. We have the same taste in almost everything, and now I'll finally have someone to go to the movies with!!!!

Speaking of movies, going to see Watchmen while in Kelowna so been reading the comic. Interesting...I'm finding I like Alan Moore's stuff. I liked League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, both the comic and the movie, and the whole 'what if these people were real' take on things. League was 'what if literary characters were real', Watchmen are 'what if comic book heroes were real'.

Wow, this ended up being longer than I'd intended, cool :) Well, till next time.

Verdict is in, To Touch

So, with a little help from my friends, and some patience, I've decided to get the iPod Touch. I already have a good chunk of the money saved for it, so after another couple paychecks I will be able to afford it. I have a buyer lined up for my nano, and I'm selling it cheap, so we both win :D

w00h00!!

To Touch, or not To Touch

So, been putting gift cards aside to eventually buy a new laptop...but there's this little device that keeps calling my name...iPod Touch. I know, I know...but I've already fallen and bought an iPod Nano (3rd Gen). Do I use these cards and get the Touch now, or wait and save them for laptop? I'm a bit of a gadget/techno-head. I'm also hoping to upgrade my phone to a touchscreen version when a year is up on my contract (March 3rd).

Music is a big part of my life, and I'm looking at the 16GB one. It's $299 now at Waly-World. I currently have a 4GB, and that stores what I listen to nicely, but could use a little more room. Plus, the Touch has games and other software on it, possibly be used as a PDA as well. I really would like one, but...I can't honesty justify spending that much :P

grrr....arrgh.........stop making shiny things for me to want!!

Lent and Resolutions

So, today(well, the 25th, but I haven't gone to bed yet) was Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent in Western Orthodoxy. I decided for this year I was going to give up caffeinated pop, energy drinks, chocolate and chips. Already I'm craving :P I've done this before, with pop, and it worked rather well. Sundays are great though, since I'm allowed to indulge, but even then I try to limit myself. We'll see how it works this year, with all those things off my list.

My other resolution, was to start walking again...that didn't last past the first day. I'll give it another go though. Some is better than none.

Also got these resistance band thingies I'm gonna give a try at. At least those I can do while still sitting at my computer ;)

Movie review and a little bit of whining

So, watched Max Payne last night (rented off iTunes). It was good, but definately glad I rented and didn't buy. Visuals were _very_ nice, but the plot...well, it _is_ based on an older game. His wife and baby are killed, he wants justice, that's about as old school as you can get. Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that it's an easy guess who-dun-it. Now I will say again, some _nice_ visuals :)

Now for the whining...why can't hubbies learn? Not only does he hog the blankets, but the bed space too. What's worse, last night he was actually sleeping on my side completely and made barely enough room for me when I went to bed. Practically had to elbow him LOL. What does he have to say for himself? Nothing, just laughs. Grrr.....
